About Us

NEPALUNTEER is a volunteering Project whose main aim is to contribute to the development of education, equality and wellbeing of the people in Nepal.

This initiative came up from a mixture of different volunteering experiences put together to create the best possible outcome, a better, more efficient and worthwhile experience.

Melanie, Carlos and Rodrigo met Susan at different volunteering programs in Nepal, and according to the reasons stated below, decided to make this initiative real.

Melanie Kaplan

I volunteered in Nepal in the summer of 2016 with a well-known organization in Spain who had a partnership with an organization in Katmandhu. I had an inspiring and lovely experience, but felt disappointed about the way the organization and the different programs were managed. I made a considerable expense and none of that money was destined to the projects nor to the people in Nepal, but the organizations itself.

I met Susan as he was one of the instructors in the organization and we became good friends. I saw in him the potential, willingness and therefore the right path to build a different concept of volunteerism in Katmandhu.”

In 2013, I started to work in NGO. At that time I don’t know much about volunteering, but slowly I came up to know while working in NGO, what is volunteering, why it is necessary? And for which area/place people should volunteer? I worked very happily with the victim peoples from rural areas, Disabled People, Elderly people and in a poor school with the Students.

Then while volunteering I felt quite sad that the fund and donation raised by the organization does not totally goes to the Victim and affected people, it could not reach up directly to the victim whereas there are so many intermediaries, Agents and middle man take commission and disappear the funds. Then I met some international volunteers and share these problems with them, we became a good friend and finally they found a way to donate directly by hand to hand by the volunteers themselves.

We thought to establish a small host family stay and different projects in Kathmandu initially. Volunteers have to pay the food and accommodation fees and Transportation cost to the Host family but they can directly volunteer in any organization without any registration fees they would like to. The best thing is volunteer can directly donate money to the victims or they can buy the needs of victims and distribute themselves. This makes the volunteer also happy and the victim’s as well. I found this idea was perfect no need of any agents and middle man or the NGO’s and INGO’s.

I heard about volunteering in Nepal through my friend Melanie. She told me about her experience and introduced me to Susan. I had the opportunity to make an authentic volunteerism in the summer of 2017, with Susan, his family and friends.

Susan coordinated the accommodation, the food, the volunteer program and amazing trips, in other words, it was the closest experience to NEPALUNTEER, before its creation.

This volunteerism has been one of the best experiences in my life. I met lovely people, amazing places and most important, I truly felt I contributed to the people in Nepal. I absolutely recommend an experience like this one!

During my entire childhood, all I wanted to do was to travel as much as possible, meet people and bring smiles to the ones around me. Therefore after graduating college and getting my first job, I decided to save as much money as possible and travel around the world. It took me two years to save enough money to do it and I ended up volunteering in Nepal for three months.

I was lucky a good friend shared Susan's, and the school he volunteered at, contact information. He advised me about NGO's, hidden costs and explained how money never reached schools and centers.

Susan and I talked about how unfair this was. With this common heartache, I decided to involve myself in the matter so that this centers could get the help they deserve.

"Volunteering is much more than showing appreciation for your present, it is creating hope and blissfulness in people that seem to have lost theirs".
